Questions about system integration

Ask an engineer directly. No sales sequence.

Do we need an enterprise service bus?

Almost certainly not. For most mid-market estates a managed gateway plus a message broker is sufficient, cheaper to run, and easier to hire for. We propose an ESB only where the routing genuinely justifies it, which is rare.

What if a vendor system has no API?

Then we integrate at the database or file level with an explicit contract and validation, and we document it as technical debt with a review date. Pretending a file drop is an API is how these estates get into trouble.

Can our team really maintain this?

That is the design goal and the acceptance criterion. Mappings are declarative and reviewed like code. Two clients have added integrations without involving us, which is the outcome we measure.

How do you handle systems that are being replaced anyway?

They integrate through the same layer, which is what makes the replacement cheaper later — the consumers do not change when the producer is swapped.
